You don't quite understand what I'm talking about. They have a right to do work on university computers when they're paying for it. And I'm coming off like an idiot... no, I think it was you who feels abuse of power is fine, and then proceeded to defend it. Whatever, I'm not anti-admin, I'm on the side of the "its not porn or destructive, let it go," admins. And in case you doubt me, back in high school I got a teacher fired for looking at porn on my network.

Well of course their accounts got unlocked 24 hours after I locked them. I'm not totally without conscience in the matter.

Now, as a whole I don't want anyone to think that what Zehly did was necessarily a bad thing. I mean, it WAS wrong to do it. And she probably shouldn't have.

But lets face it, it was funny as hell.

Should administrators abuse their admin privelages? No, they shouldn't. It's wrong.

But is it fun every now and then? Hell yes. While Zehly may have demonstrated abusing ones admin, she's also demonstrated a rule I like to think we should always think about.

Never start something unless you know you can (and will) win. In this case, she definately won.

Zehly didn't exactly do what was the best thing to do, but she did the next best thing. If those guys were there to do the project they were supposed to have done (zehly said it was due the next day, I believe), they wouldn't have done what they did. That is, go all the way across the CS lab where the only person in that lab is sitting at, just to catch an upskirt with their cam-phone of a lady trying to do her work. Obviously, they weren't as interested in their projects as they were in getting a shot of perversion. So in my view, although Zehly no longer had admin power, she was able to get the password, use it to her advantage and make them pay for being asshats. Obviously they didn't report her, and had they done their project in time anyway, they wouldn't have anything to worry about. So Zehly "you go girl"!

However if you allow any one to social engineer you that easily you may want to become a Helpdesk Tech not a Network Administrator of a large University. Simply put I would fire anyone with that degree of stupidity on my team period!
I totally agree with you. That Admin should be fired. What a terrible employee. How stupid can you be to let someone have the password to the network of a large university.

I agree with Pie and Uni on this whole matter... on pretty much all counts, even it being funny as hell like Pie said. You did what you felt you had to do zehly. Luckily things worked out.

I do want to say something though. A um... long... time ago when I was in college, I had friends much worse than those four. If they had cameras in phones back then, there would be many a behind photographed. Thing is... if someone screwed them over and they knew who it was, or had an idea, fun and mischief went out the window and violence became the game of the day. It's good that didn't happen to you or the admin on duty. I think it would have been more mature, much safer, and had a greater impact if you just turned around and said, "Please stop."
